It is nice to have big wants. Some call it long-range goals. I thought mine would be to make it to the year 2050. Midway point through this millennium. And that would be a nice target as I would be nearly 90 years old if and when I get there. A big if, by the way. And if I am able to write each day as I do now, that would be more than 10,500 daily posts.
What triggered this thought? Again, like most of my thoughts, I am influenced hugely by connecting several things I read about. One of my current reads is a 1994 book “The Unwritten Rules of the Game” by Peter Scott-Morgan. And when I read such authors whose works are interesting, I research them in detail. About their personal, learning, work, and life. Are they still around? Or when and how did they die? Etc. etc.
And I was surprised to read that Peter was affected by motor neuron disease later in his life. Something similar to what Stephen Hawking lived with all this life. Even more surprising was Peter’s response to this debilitating disease. Peter 2.0 - his book about his response to fighting the disease as well as working to survive and thrive with it for the next 20+ years. This book will possibly be my next read.
So, on an optimistic note, my daily updates will count down the number of days to New Year’s day 2050 reminding me each day of what an opportunity this life has been and what one could do with it if you still have that kind of time available to you.
To 1st Jan 2050: 10,367 days to go.
