My province opened up the 4th booster vaccine dose for people in my age group and I got my fourth Moderna shot today. And getting the shot seems to have become a non-event. So, also getting Covid in one of its supposed new forms BA.4 or BA.5 also seems to have become a non-event, with so many people around me getting it.
I have also lost touch with the waves and of flattening of the curve. The published data has stopped making sense as testing is now confined to a small subset of really impacted people. One-third of the population seems to have got COVID in the US and UK where there used to be a high level of testing, but here in Canada the positivity number stands at about 10% of the population, so there should be a terrible undercount.
The death rates have thankfully gone down and hopefully, the trends keep that way. It should be due to a combination of high vaccine rates plus the levels of the actual infected population base that might have helped build some resistance. Covid seems to have been forgotten when I see the crowds around along with the random stares and whispering comments on being in the masked majority.
One doesn’t know what the future holds, the general assumption being that we are ahead of this pandemic and we have moved on to an endemic instead. Though the next wave might be the proclivity to more infections in the seasonally cold winter months, proving that this is not over yet. Life trundles on…
