Last night, there was an atrocity in our backyard. Someone had egged our house from the creekside pathway the runs behind our house. We were aghast by it.
When we walked our dog later on this evening, we saw several empty egg cartons lying around. And several of the houses in the neighborhood had also been egged. Perhaps, it was a drunken stupor or on the high, but clearly, someone had been busy last night throwing the eggs. And this is certainly not right.
But this is not the atrocity that I wanted to talk about today. There was a bigger atrocity discovered in Canada’s own backyard in Kamloops, British Columbia. A mass grave containing the remains of 215 children has been found in Canada at a former residential school set up to assimilate indigenous people.

What a real unacceptable atrocity and a shame. This type of genocide in our own backyard in my adopted home country. What other hidden graves and bones are there in the history of Canada? And all this seems to be in the name of “assimilation” - what the heck is this? Standardization. To follow the practices, rules, and philosophies of the white race and the Christian faith that they brought with it?
What an absurd way to treat fellow human beings? The story of superiority, power, and taking advantage. This still pervades society at large for a variety of things, the wish for “my way - the better way” and coercion in a variety of ways to fit so-called norms. Considered right by a sub-sect of outlier population who want to control the rest. When there is really no right or wrong, just mere perspectives depending on context.
Today, I feel ashamed that Canada is in the news for the wrong reasons and as a responsible Canadian, take a share in the shame! Head bowed.
