You see what you want to see
A month ago our neighbor’s cat “Boston” walked away through an open back door into the wilderness behind our houses. We knew Boston as we used to help out while our neighbors traveled.
After that incident, whenever I looked out any window, in our backyard, or when on a walk my eyes would search for “Boston” and a mirage of the cat would appear in strange places.
After 10 days, Boston was found a few kilometers away frail and afraid and he came back home. But for me, several weeks after he came back I see cats that are not there everywhere when my eyes are looking around, even though Boston was safely home and back to his confined self.
Strange indeed we humans, we hallucinate what we believe we want to see.
