Sometimes we got to do it.
We were out of the road for a family trip to the lakeshore a few days ago. And this was all to walk the dog. We use the sog as a proxy to get out there by the water to spend some time watching it and calming the mind.
When we were on the road, we saw an ice cream truck on the road and said “Let’s get some right now!” - Well not that we did not have ice cream in the freezer at home. Or that we could not drive into one of the restaurant’s drive-throughs and pick some up. But, it is not the same experience.
One needs to pick it up from the ice-cream truck - a different experience. It is all about the experience - not about the ice cream at all.
So, we chased the ice cream truck for a few blocks. Trying flashing the headlights behind him and he wouldn’t see it. Followed him to a few parks which he skipped going inside due to the fact there was a limited audience in them. I also got stuck on single-lane roads behind the truck so that there was no way to overtake the truck and flag it down.
Finally, I caught him at a traffic light where we both stop at a “Red” light. Saw that pedestrian crossing was on, jumped out of the car to go out and talk to the ice cream truck driver who agreed to pull up in a nearby parking lot.
So, we all got some ice cream, something that we would remember not for the ice cream but for the completely unexpected experience.
So, sometimes we got to do it!
