I spent nearly six days in Berlin. Interestingly, a substantial percentage of it was in what used to be the former East Berlin. Calculated in hours I found that I spent 97% of my time on the East side of the invisible wall and only 3% of my time on what used to be West Berlin.
What used to be East Berlin has phenomenally risen from the ashes in the last three decades or more. The integration of the two Germanies can be seen from the integration of Berlin - the fact that the German goverment moved back to this city post unification.
One cant see the boundaries in reality any more. But it so happened most of the touristy spots are around the bourough of Mitte and specifically Alexanderplatz near where I happened to stay. As well as the conference location, the pre- and post-conference meetings were all on what used to be East of the Wall.
