Different cultures have different calendars and today is Tamil New Year’s day wherever it is celebrated. Especially in Tamilnadu and for the ones who practice or follow the Tamil calendar. Local cultures follow the local harvest season. And like the Chinese, the Indian calendar also derives its patterns from moon cycles among others.

It is also new year’s day in many other regional settings in India as well as in cultures that speak other Indian languages as part of the shared heritage and customs these various language speakers share.

Of course, if one looks deeply enough every day could be a new year somewhere based on local customs and practices. The point is to celebrate each day to its fullest even though we keep looking for reasons and practices to drive our happiness.

So, happy new year to you wherever you are, whatever be your practices.

Now go celebrate life…
