It is another “Give and take” day. I am talking about Valentine’s day. There is nothing wrong with offering some love. But most love is biased. Especially the valentine kind. This love is mostly offered with some benefit in mind. A relationship. Perhaps company. Long-term commitment. Or just getting lucky. It is an exchange.

Come to think of it any form of love or any type of holiday event is an exchange of sorts. Including our love for family members. We love our genetics to survive. It is not totally altruistic.

Not even agape love. The so-called ultimate “Love” from selfless sacrifice and service. Even that has a bias. The love for the species to survive. The satisfaction derived from providing the service. The love for others’ sufferings to reduce.

Yes, it is all a matter of perspective. I am not saying that some types of love are not better than others. Especially those ones with less selfishness and more selflessness.

After all, we are human. The great race of “takers”. So keep trying to give more than we can take. It’s certainly not a zero-sum game.
