Is one’s success purely skills and competencies? And to what extent is it luck? I know not.
If we believe in a modicum of control and agency over ourselves then one can certainly claim credit for the skills in order to build competencies by practicing such skills. But there is definitely an element of luck involved in any process of achieving success too. How much one never knows.
And these ratios might vary for each individual. Some might be luckier and get away with leveraging very few skills. And some have little luck but build great skills and competencies that are not put to commercial or visible success.
Are you with me so far? And if the above seems to be agreeable to you… let me wrap up with one more question for you:
How much of your ability to acquire and build your skills, competencies, practice, and experiences were down to luck? And if so what is really agency?
Keep pondering.
