Everything evolves. But if look at it through a natural evolutionary lens, it ends up clashing with a ton of other beliefs including our cultural upbringing, learnings from religion and school over the years, and our inherent need as humans to feel predictable and to be in control of things.
This is well summed up by a quote from Robin Dunbar, an evolutionary psychologist, and researcher who says:
Humans do not behave rationally when their ideologies are challenged
— Robin Dunbar
What do you do when your ideologies are challenged? How do you reconcile dichotomous beliefs at extreme ends of a spectrum? And do you use the evolutionary perspective to look at humankind to appreciate who we are and how we function?
