I want to close this series, tying down “Thoughts” and “Metacognition” to Reflection and meaning-making through a favorite quote of mine.
Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
— Viktor Frankl
I am a big fan of Viktor Frankl and his work on logotherapy. The “space” that Viktor talks about is the “Thought” that originates. The “space” that Viktor talks about is also the “must” in Deming’s work. A space to step back as far as we can, to reflect, to look at things from different perspectives, to connect the dots that we know of and the dots that we can dream up. And make our own meaning from those connections… it is a beautiful space indeed. And I am thankful for that.
