The price of regret is far heavier than the price of discipline
— The Daily Coach
When I read quotes like this, I just smile. It is easier to write it than to do it. When we read these things, we would obviously say “it makes sense”. But yet, we are human. And being human means that we spend far more time regretting things than actually being disciplined. Since we are not mostly designed to be disciplined.
Some people might be indeed disciplined. For some of the things and for some of the time. And good for those for whom it works. And some might be able to learn it for a few things they do.
And for the rest (of us), find something you love to do, and continue doing it, and then perhaps the discipline will come. It is sometimes easier to learn to accept, adjust your goals, or minimize your goals. And that might be the way.
And then a great related idea is to keep doing things. A lot of things. And you might find that you become disciplined at a few things. And then perhaps you might find that you actually have a passion for one of these things and that will carry you along from there away from your regrets.
