She left me today. And it was heartbreaking. After 14 long years. I think perhaps it was time to go. This was inevitable. It was building up to happen. The cracks were happening for a long time and it was getting impossible to fix. We tried patching up. But, it was failing so very often. So, finally, she packed up and left. The movers came and helped her move out. And she left the space and me empty. Understandably so.
I am talking about my elliptical. We had a great run and relationship and it was sad to see her go. She had been broken for a while. I could not get the parts to fix it. I tried my very best with my ingenuity to patch things up in a way it worked. Which it did for a while. Sometimes the elliptical would come apart while using it, but as long as I fastened the bolts that held the flywheel before I used it every time it continued to function. And sometimes it would come off while exercising.
The elliptical was instrumental in solving some of my problems. When I had a frozen shoulder and was suggested surgery to fix it as the only option when all the massaging from my physiotherapist did not help, getting on the elliptical and forcing my arms to swing day after day solved the problem in three months.
I also added a Concept 2 rower a couple of years ago to my repertoire because of its whole body and core exercise strengths. But failed to use it sufficiently because it is harder to do and my motivation tended to force me to use the elliptical instead as a compromise. So finally to force change in my exercise equipment I scheduled an appointment with my city to pick it up. That will be the best for me in the long run as I was not planning to replace it - it will force a change to rowing, which should be better for me after all.
