Daily musings #608- Saturday, 1 October 2022

turned-on flat screen television

While I was planning my six-week travel to Poland, India, and Spain I assumed that my streaming would go with me. I was planning to catch up on my favorite shows on Netflix and watch the Formula 1 races in Singapore, Japan, and Austin, Texas while on the go. Easy breezy it was all apps isn’t it?

Not so fast. Netflix would not log in to my account once I reached India. A password change attempt to login into my devices didn’t work. Thankfully there was a way to make a voice call from the app to a Netflix call center - who explained that my account was country-specific and would not be available outside Canada. Damn. That’s a bummer. Considering that Netflix has raised its prices from $23.99 a month from the days we started at $8.99 a month. I don’t understand why Netflix-owned content cannot be made available to their subscribers wherever in the world they went. Guess Netflix is the new cable and that is how they roll.

The same story continued with Disney+, Formula 1 TV, and now Disney-owned Hotstar. The only one that truly globally worked was Amazon Prime.

Welcome to the new reality. Streaming is indeed jittery. On the bright side, I can now turn these off and go do something else different. The struggle is, what the heck do I do? (That is my device FOMO speaking)
