On Monday our province removed the mask mandate for most public presence. And this was followed locally by the city lifting practices at their public locations including schools. And in one day the whole world looked changed. Wherever you went shopping or visited public places at least 50% of the people had ditched the mask. In just one day. And just yesterday I was talking about short memories.
Later on I had to visit our local Walmart for some grocery shopping. And the same picture there too. At least a equal portion weren’t using the mask now and out with it went rules like separation practices and lane directions in the use of the aisles. For me personally it was an eerie feeling. It felt I lived on Mars - with over 26 months of mask usage, it felt very alien to see people without it - and so very quickly.
Perhaps I would join the gang and ditch the mask one day. Perhaps might be the last percentile to drop this thing when the time is right. It is a miracle that we have survived the 2+ years without the virus infecting any of our family members when I have heard stories from my close friends circle of triple vaccinated people getting the virus for the second time.
It is difficult to evaluate what is right as one does not work on probabilities alone. It is easy to assume that we will be in the smallest of impacted population but it is easily possible or extremely plausible that the impact of the virus on a family member might be harder than what we expect it to be. Only time will tell.
