Recently, my wife and I had our regular conversation with our investment advisor. 2020 was a crazy year with ups and downs from an investment perspective, but when we were reviewing patterns of the future an interesting chart was shared.
Though we have limited ability to see the future world and call out what 2030 will look like, we can see the theme’s from the above chart. US Markets, precious metals, Asian markets especially Japan, Technology-driven NASDAQ, crude, and recently the large technology players. Unlike the previous patterns, the new FAANG companies were the dominant players in technology leveraging the internet.
Two guesses on what happens in the next 10 years. The FAANG companies continue the rise like Gold’s rise in the ’70s and ’80s. But, here is the theme I would like to bet upon… the rise of new “creatives” - the ones who can create using technology (AI, data, etc, etc) are the ones to invest in. Wikipedia has an interesting list at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_emerging_technologies
But having said that, how do you find them, especially in a way that one could invest before they become the darlings of the market before the start of their “J” curve. That is the million-dollar question. And it may not be any of the existing players who are flush with money, as money doesn’t equal innovation. The “J” curve innovation we are talking about is often driven by poverty and a burning desire to change the world in some way, not accepting “no” as an answer.
What do you think will happen in the next 10 years and what will this chart show in 2030?
