We are often at a dilemma or paradox in decision making on whether to decide something from a short term point of view or the long term. I have found it valuable to take decisions and construct my action based on both simultaneously at the same time for most of the important decisions that drive my corresponding action.
The short-term decision and action are also the long-term decision and action. Unless there is a specific situation where one does not need a long-term view, a unified decision that covers both the short and long term might be the most optimum.
No, you say. We don’t even know what happens in the long term. We are not mindreaders of the future. So how can one make such a decision for an action like that? Yes, you can. With your best guess, gut feel, and imagination.
Yes, I know. In the very long term, we are all gone. But, the ones who want to really do things to leave behind something for the future generations are doing things based on such imagination of a future that might be, and a future that they would like to engineer if possible.
Your short-term decision and action could be your long-term action or vice versa!
