My travels are a time that lets me reset my perspectives. I observe things in the very short and medium terms and the very long term. And these observations help me derive different answers in these different contexts.
Since I visited India a year ago thing seems the same in a variety of ways. The same people who behave in the same way. And they are most stuck (my bias) in whatever they are stuck. So things seem the same all around. The same traffic. The same noises all around. The same beliefs. The same TV shows. The same politics. The same cricket games are being watched. The same behaviors are in both thought and action. Things seem to be frozen in time to what I left here a year ago. For the most part.
And yet when I look at things from a broader perspective across 25 to 40 years everything has changed. Technology has changed. The new generation’s behavior is significantly different from the previous generation. Things have changed for whole swathes of people and life made better for them than what it used to be. Mobile technology changing everything. Food and grocery on the tap of a few buttons. Cooking at home becoming passe. Medical systems improving in practice and technology. Enormous infrastructure is being built that builds better lives for the next generation that is coming. Things that they will take for granted in the phases of their lives.
Everything changes though close up everything seems to be the same.
