It is summertime. Or is it?
So what is summer?
Is the when the summer solstice that happened upon on June 21st that changed the angle of the sun and started reducing the number of hours that we had sunlight for?
Is it driven by the time the sun rises and sets?
Is it measured by the weather, the amount of higher temperature days that we get? In which case this summer is failing us badly. We had more days of cloudy weather, rain, and thunderstorms that made summer so far in June and July feel like we are in Springtime weather. And several days where it rained cats and dogs.
Is it the feeling of how we feel? Slowed down with more vacation and laze around days. Using the longer days to do something other than just work. And stay away from the gloom of the previous winter that we arose from.
So what is summer?
The cognitive ones more left-brained look at it as a date from which it starts. The abstract ones who are right-brained look at it as patterns of high temperature and ignore the rains and lower temperatures that don’t fit the expected patterns.
And the ones with the left-right brain balance perhaps enjoy the feeling of summer, the balance between the angle of the sun, to the length of the dates, to the temperatures of the days to the feeling of the crispness and dryness in the air, to the change in the activity of what you do with the time. All blended in the perfect proportions that you enjoy and call “Summer”
PS: I spent an hour this morning to see Richard Branson and his crew-mates fly in the Virgin Galatic to the edge of space. Interesting stuff.
