15th August is a variety of memorable events. For one, it was my birth country India’s Independence day. And this year it is 75 years since the British left India. Growing up it was a holiday we celebrated, a day of patriotism. Now while it seems in the distant past there is still a little bit of nostalgia sitting here in my adopted country, Canada. For another is it my father-in-law’s birthday. Happy birthday, FIL-ly.
But this year, August 15 is even more memorable to me. I am probably one of those few people looking at this day to make a different meaning from it. It was 10,367 days to go when I last wrote about it. Today, it is 10,000 days to the New Year of 2050. The middle of this century. A superficial goal that I would love to see. Something that I might make it to if I am destined to be there. A potential destiny not in my hands. Certainly plausible. How probable I know not.
Looking at it in years, it is about a little over 27 years from here. Can you imagine how the world will be then?
Apart from my biggest personal question on whether I would make it there, I have a bunch of other questions to myself in wonderment and awe about it:
What will mobile phones be then? Computers?
Internet? TV? Entertainment?
Artificial intelligence? What will it do to us?
Cars? Autonomous driving? Will I own a car? Will I own a driver’s license?
Carbon-based fuels? And energy alternatives?
Health technology progressions. I could do with a new heart and some replacement arteries. Maybe.
Genetics-driven medicines? Prolonged life spans?
What would be medical systems and hospitals like?
Colony on the moon? Mars conquered and settled?
Worlds War III: Will we be even alive? Putin might be 96. North Korea? The middle east? What is the next cauldron?
Does China possess Taiwan? A long ten-year war?
Climate change, meteor showers that hit us?
Ocean levels and sea rises? Any sinking or relocated cities?
Weather patterns? Heat? Forest fires? Countries burnt out?
Wildlife survival? Extinctions, including us as humans.
How many more financial turnaround and fall cycles since now?
Will democracy survive in America? Where will this polarized country go?
What is money? What replaces the blockchain?
Air travel through space travel? Nuclear-powered planes?
What is work and how do people work?
Will we all be on dole?
A 3-day work week?
Will we be truly inclusive as humans instead of today’s lip service?
What else? What else? What else?
Dream on. What’s your list? What are your questions? Where will you be and what will you be doing then?
